Portrait of Soheil Zamen Milani, biomedical illustrator

Hi, I’m Soheil, a biomedical illustrator and medical intern

Accurate biomedical figures by a medical researcher, focused on neuro-oncology, extracellular vesicles and neuroscience.

I’m a medical intern in my final year of medical school and a researcher. I make figures, graphical abstracts and anatomy illustrations for research labs, biotech and medtech teams, publishers and agencies around the world.

It began with a simple frustration: so many papers with brilliant findings buried under figures nobody could parse. A good illustration doesn’t just decorate a paper; it’s often the first thing a reviewer or reader actually looks at. I wanted to make that first impression count, both for clarity and for how it looks.

Because I’m inside the research process myself (writing manuscripts, extracting data, sitting in on evidence-based medicine seminars), I don’t just draw what a client describes to me. I usually already understand the biology, so I can catch when a mechanism is oversimplified or a pathway is drawn backwards, and fix it before it becomes a problem in peer review.

So far, my figures and graphical abstracts have appeared in journals covering angiogenesis, exosome biology, neural stem cells, and ischemic disease, including Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, Cancer Cell International, and Cell Communication and Signaling.

My main areas are neuro-oncology and glioma, extracellular vesicles and exosomes, and neurosurgery and neuroanatomy. My own research is drifting toward neural stem cells and stroke, so if your work touches regenerative or translational neuroscience, there’s a good chance I already speak the language.

If you’ve got a figure, graphical abstract, or a concept that needs to look as good as the science behind it, let’s talk. Or take a look at my pricing first if that’s easier.

How I work

  • Human-made, no generative AI. Every figure is created from scratch in Adobe Illustrator, so there are no AI-disclosure or image-integrity questions when you submit.
  • I read the paper first. As a physician-in-training and published researcher, I check the science before I draw it.
  • Journal-ready files. Formatted to your target journal’s specs, with colour-blind-safe palettes on request.
  • Agencies and studios welcome. I work white-label in your house style, with layered, editable files. See agency terms.
